MAPS.ME just got an update. Did yours?
Issue 1 · Oct 6–12, 2026. The latest MAPS.ME build adds route alternatives for walking, cycling and public transport, brings trains into public-transport routing, groups activity-recording points by route length, and adds terrain detail. Google Play rolls builds out over several days, so the listing may show different options at different times.

Start NowWhat changed this week
These are the three changes in MAPS.ME: Offline maps GPS Nav v18.0.72060-googleRelease that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.
- 01More route alternatives to compare
The notes say alternative options were added for walking, cycling, and public transport routes. That gives route planning more choices across these travel modes.
- 02Trains join public transport routes
Train is listed as a newly available public-transport type in routes. The change adds rail journeys to the transport options described in the update notes.
- 03More terrain detail on maps
The update adds detailed contour lines and terrain shading, which Google Play says make terrain features easier to assess on the map.
Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's MAPS.ME: Offline maps GPS Nav page.

Tips
- Compare route choices before leaving
Enter your destination and look through the walking, cycling, or public-transport alternatives shown for the journey. The new notes do not say how options are ranked, so compare the route details that the app presents rather than assuming the first choice is best. For a trip where timing or terrain matters, review the full route before setting off.
- Check whether trains fit your trip
When planning public transport, see whether a train option appears among the routes for your destination. Google Play identifies train as a newly available transport type, but gives no details about regional coverage or service schedules. Confirm journey information with the relevant transport provider if the timing or connection is important, and do not assume every train is included.
- Review terrain before outdoor travel
Use the map's contour lines and terrain shading to look over the area on a planned walk or cycle route. These details can help you notice mapped terrain features, but the Play listing does not promise complete coverage or replace local guidance. Consider conditions, route suitability, and your own needs before relying on a map for outdoor travel.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Therapymetric is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of MAPS.ME changes?
No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with Maps_Me. The app's Google Play page is the authority for its release notes, availability, and current listing. This article summarizes the information supplied there, so check that page if you need to confirm the wording or see whether the build is offered through Google Play.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play rolls builds out over several days, so an app page may show Open while a newer build is still reaching users. Check the MAPS.ME listing again later if you want to see whether its available option changes. The Play page is the source to consult for availability; this article cannot determine what is offered to a particular account or device.
Can MAPS.ME guide me without internet access?
The Play description says MAPS.ME offers offline maps, offline search, and GPS navigation, and says no internet is required for its offline maps. It also describes driving, walking, and cycle navigation. Before a trip, make sure the map information you need is available in the app, and remember that the description does not promise every service or transport detail works offline.
