YouTube just got an update. Did yours?
Issue 1 · Oct 6–12, 2026. YouTube’s current Google Play notes point readers to education inside the app and notifications explaining new features, rather than naming individual additions, while Google Play rolls builds out over several days, so the listing does not establish which features each reader will see.

Start NowWhat changed this week
These are the three changes in YouTube that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.
- 01Feature explanations appear inside the app
The notes direct readers to education inside YouTube for information about new features, but do not identify those features or describe a particular change in this build.
- 02Notifications also carry information about features
Google Play also names notifications as a source of feature information, without specifying their timing, contents, delivery method, or whether every reader will receive the same notice.
- 03Guidance should explain how features work
The notes say feature education and notifications explain how to use the feature, while leaving the actual feature names and instructions out of the Google Play listing.
Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's YouTube page.

Tips
- Separate recommendations from followed channels
Google Play describes Home as the place for personal recommendations and Subscriptions as the place to see the latest from favorite channels. Those are existing features, not announced changes. Choosing between them gives browsing a clearer purpose: discovering suggested videos or keeping up with channels you already follow.
- Find videos you previously set aside
The supplied description says Library contains videos you have watched, liked, and saved for later. That makes it a useful starting point when you remember a video but not its title. This is an existing capability listed on Google Play; the current notes do not announce a change to it.
- Read feature guidance before expecting differences
When YouTube presents feature education or a notification, its explanation is the source the current notes recommend for learning how that feature works. Read the named feature and its instructions together rather than assuming every notice describes the same addition. The Google Play notes alone do not identify a control to select.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Therapymetric is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of YouTube changes?
No. This is an independent site that is not affiliated with Google LLC, and the app’s Google Play page is the authority. This article interprets the supplied listing rather than publishing an official release log. The notes point to education and notifications inside the product, without naming individual features or fixes.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play rolls builds out over several days, so an available build may not reach everyone at the same time. Seeing Open instead of Update does not, by itself, establish a problem. The supplied listing also gives no single version number, so this article cannot identify a numbered build for comparison.
Are YouTube Premium benefits part of this update?
Google Play lists YouTube Premium benefits in the app description, including viewing without ads, watching while using other apps or with the screen locked, saving videos for later viewing, and access to YouTube Music Premium. These are existing offerings, available in select countries, not additions identified by the current release notes.
