New phone essentials

All three steps

Step 2 of 3 · Useful apps

Build a small app collection around your routine

Choose only the apps that have a clear job in your day. Gmail is for email and supported accounts; Google Maps provides directions and place information. YouTube covers video viewing and channel subscriptions, while Google Play Books & Audiobooks offers a reading and listening library. Garmin Connect is useful if you have a compatible Garmin device, and Drivvo can organize vehicle costs and maintenance records. These six choices are starting points, not a checklist you must complete. An app may already be installed, and availability can differ by region or device. Open each app after installation, confirm which account it is using, and read requests for access before accepting them. For a device companion such as Garmin Connect, follow its pairing instructions rather than assuming that copying the app also connects the accessory. Check any subscription or purchase terms before agreeing to them, and postpone optional purchases until you know you want the service.

Where to get apps

Get these apps from Google Play. Open the listing and check the developer name, not just the icon or the app title, before choosing Install. For Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube and Google Play Books & Audiobooks, look for Google LLC. For the other choices, review the developer details on the listing and compare them with the app provider's official information if you are uncertain. Read the description, compatibility information, Data safety section and any purchase notices. An advertisement or a familiar-looking icon is not enough to identify the intended app. If an app is already present, open its listing to confirm what it is rather than installing a second similarly named product.
